The mansion was built in the late 1890's by self-made business magnate Joseph A. Rink, when this area of Meridian Street was an area of elegant homes. In the late 1930's, the 4-story brick addition was added. The property has been owned by various insurance companies from the 1920s until August 2005, when it was purchased by 21 Meridian, LLC.
